Martin Abalos, 84, passed away Wednesday morning March 6, 2013 at Hospice of Arizona - Greenfield House in Mesa, Arizona. He was surrounded by family and friends. Born April 22, 1928 he was the son of the late Martin Abalos and Frances Marquez Abalos of Los Angeles, California.

Martin attended Roosevelt High School and College in East Los Angeles. He built a rewarding and prosperous career as a Professional Engineer in California. Martin holds a certificate from the State of California in Manufacturing Engineering. He was trained in the Arts and Science of Fuel Gas Engineering and was certified by the American Society of Gas Engineers. He also holds several active patents at the US Patents Office in Washington DC. Martin held prominent positions at Dean Industries, Weber Showcase and Teledyne-Laars. Most recently he was a consultant for several firms. He loved his work and of telling his kids and grand kid?s stories about ?back in my day.? He was a proud, caring and generous man.

Martin was a skilled woodworker and accomplished ?Jack of All Trades?. Family, friends and neighbors knew him as the ?fix-it man?. Over the years he acquired almost every tool imaginable and knew how to use each of them. He enjoyed crosswords puzzles, poetry and playing Rummikub each evening with his wife ?Jannie.? He was much loved and will be missed by family, friends and neighbors. He was always ready to lend a ride or a wrench. His dog ?Sally? waits by the door for him to return.

Martin Abalos is pre-deceased by his sisters Beatrice Yakimowich and Eleanor Tarango, and his brother Benjamin Abalos. He spoke of them often and loved each of them.

Martin is survived by his beloved ?Jannie? Janice Abalos of Queen Creek AZ, son David Abalos (wife Sonya) of Westminster CO, daughter Laura Hofstatter (husband John) of Queen Creek AZ and daughter Virginia Garcia (husband Andy) of Oakdale CA, brothers Miguel ?Henry? Abalos (wife Lindy) of Cerritos CA, Daniel Abalos (wife Gloria) of Laguna Nigel CA, and sister Esther Acosta of Los Angeles CA. Martin has nine Grand Children: Brian Abalos, Aaron Abalos, Andrew Abalos, Paulette Hofstatter, Amy Jacobson, Cassie Rinne, Trissa Chavez, Eric Garcia, and Joshua Garcia. He also has eight great grandsons and six great granddaughters, all of whom he adored.

Memorial services for Martin Abalos will be as follows. Tuesday March, 12, 2013 at 7 pm there will be a viewing and rosary for Martin Abalos presented by Sister Carmen at Guerra & Gutierrez Mortuary, 5800 E Beverly Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90022, telephone 323-722-1900. The following morning Wednesday at 10:00 AM March 13, 2013 a Mass at St Alphonsus Catholic Church located at 532 S Atlantic Blvd, Los Angeles 90022, telephone 323-264-3353. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 966 N Potrero Grande Dr Montebello CA 90640, telephone 323-877-2024.

Martin this is Ethan I miss you buddy. You know, there was nothing bad about you, I only saw good. I bet you can beat bad and make everything and everyone good as they can be. I cried because I miss you.I miss when you would check on me and Jeric when we were in the tree, and you helping us when we needed paper. You were the best and you still are, I miss you and I hope you meet Cindy and God. I hope your're building or cutting wood or sitting down finally and having a cup of tea or coffee.
