Martin Ralph Brittan Ph.D.

“Doc”,
I’m going to miss you my old friend. You were my major professor and mentor at CSUS from 1975, through my Masters in 1983. And although I decided to switch to another field of study, I very much enjoyed staying in touch with you, and fellow ichthyological grad student George Zorzi, over the following 25 years. I will miss the great lunches together, while we all talked of our life adventures, simple pleasures, and sorrows. You had a great life!

So sorry to hear of the lose of my old neighbor on Venus Drive, my professor at Sac State, and a fellow fisheries scientist and AFS colleague. Please know that Marty has made a huge impact on his students and colleagues over the years and we all benefit from sharing a portion of out lives with him.

The Pacific Street Cafe in Roseville has not been the same without the frequent visits by Marty and Ruth. I enjoyed visiting with Marty and Ruth and I always remembered to call him "Doctor" when first greeting him. He didn't ask me to do so...I did it because of respect for his education and service to CSUS and the World.

My sympathies to Marty’s (“Dr. Brittan’s”) family!

I was a biology student at Sac State in the mid-1970s and always remembered "Dr. Brittan" from my ichthyology class with fondness. (I later met his brother, Lynn, when I worked with SCS.) It has been wonderful to reconnect and visit with “Marty” in recent years at special events on campus.

May the love of family and friends carry you through this time of loss!
