Martin James Foy Sr.

Hampton, NH - Martin "Marty" Foy, 87, of Hampton died peacefully Wednesday August 9, 2023 at Hospice House in Concord, N.H.

He was born in Concord, N.H. on May 31, 1936, the oldest son of Albert A. and Mildred (Coleman) Foy Sr.

Marty attended Concord Senior High and graduated from St.John's/Bishop Brady High School class of 1955 where he was a three sport athlete. His nickname was "Tiger" for what he may have lacked in talent he made up for with his work ethic and as a ferocious competitor. He carried this into his adult life and passed it on to his three children. He was inducted into the St. John's/Bishop Brady Athletic Hall of Fame.

After graduating, Marty attended Concord Commercial College where he studied business. He began his career in Insurance with Mutual of Omaha. He was a staff manager with Metropolitan Life in Concord as well as Brokerage Manager for Aetna Life Insurance Co. in Concord. He joined his dad in his Commercial Real Estate company, Foy Associates Inc. as a real estate developer until his retirement. He developed many areas in Concord including West Village and many businesses on Loudon Road along with his dad.

Marty was very involved in many aspects within the Concord community. He was very active in sports. He was the coach for the St. John's girl's basketball team, the J.V. coach for the St. John's High School basketball team alongside Tom Hardiman. After having his family, he was a long time little league coach for Northeast Little League. He was well loved by all of his players with his kindness and optimistic spirit, he coached with great passion.

He also served his community as a Concord city councilman and on the parish council for Immaculate Heart of Mary church. He was also very proud of serving on the board of directors for New Hampshire Housing Authority as the longest board member, serving 23 years, and as vice chairman for a time. Marty was a true champion for affordable housing in the state of N.H.

Marty continued his love of sports in his adult life, watching his children play various sports, then his grandchildren. He watched and cheered on all the Boston teams. He was an avid tennis player, playing in a league for many years at the former Racquet Club in Concord. He had a huge impact on his children playing and trying many different sports as well as staying active. He would teach them anything they wanted to play and always did it with patience, encouragement and a lot of enthusiasm!

He is survived by his three children Martin " Skip" Foy Jr., Anne Lakeman (David Wyman) both of Concord, and David (Winnie) of Boca Raton, Fla. six grandchildren; Kristina and Robbie Lakeman, Justin and Allison Foy, and Kevin and Tyler Foy, as well as three great grandchildren, his brother Albert "Tinker" Foy Jr. (Judy), Ex wife and mother of his children Ellen Amrol and many nieces and nephews that cherished their "Uncle Marty."

He was predeceased by his parents, Bernadine Herron, his love of 36 years, sister Patricia Ford and brother William T. Foy and son in law Bob Lakeman.

Marty fought through his medical challenges just like he lived life and taught his children and grandchildren to do. He was always positive and optimistic in life no matter what was going on. His constant encouragement and ability to make us all laugh even through tough times will be greatly missed. His grandchildren enjoyed spending time with him and family holidays where he was always the life of the party. There was never a dull moment when " Grampy Foy" was around. We will be forever grateful to have had him in all of our lives and the impact he had on all of us will live on within us.

Visiting hours will be on Friday August 18, 2023 from 5 to 8 pm at Water's Funeral Home 50 S. Main St. Concord, NH

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday August 19, at 10:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary church, 180 Loudon Rd, Concord.
