Tiger was my Squadron Commander with 1/11 "Blackhorse" Armored Cavalry Regiment in Vietnam. As an Armor Officer and one of his two helicopter pilots (with Major Joseph Tobin), we flew daily over the squadron´s M-48 tanks and M-113 ACAVS as their crews command and control element, especially when guiding them in combat on the roads during an ambush, or in the jungle where guiding them visually toward a Viet Cong Base Camp, an unmarked terrain feature, stream or open area after...

Tiger was Best darn Col. in the Cav! I was a scout for the 11th Cavalry and was proud to have had him in charge. I would like to say we all felt better about the situation when he was in charge!

Tiger will never know how much he was loved by the men of the 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. When he was over our heads in his helicopter, the men of the squadron knew that "their Tiger" was looking out for them.

Tiger was one of a kind. He should have been a General Officer. I am glad we renewed our friendship by phone before he died. He served his country very well.

I will miss him and our Country will miss him.

Grant commented when he heard Stonewall Jackson had been Killed "He was a galllant soldier and a Christian gentleman". He could have been talking about our friend Tiger. We will miss his humor, generosity, and friendship.

I recognize and retain affection and respect for his memory. He was a good friend, impressing me with his drive for knowledge and qualification, and his leadership in diverse fields of endeavor essential to our Country. He was a true "Tiger" as a combat leader, and as we remember his football career. It is so sad to me he did not survive his injuries.
