I first got to know Martin when I was a sophomore in high school. Although we were casual friends I had admiration for him, as he spoke his mind, was funny, and yes had a temper at times. I remember making a joke about another classmate who I believed was a bit of a slacker. Martin stood up for him and told me the classmate was having a learning problem and was getting help for it. Wow, from then on I was careful what to say and how to say it so as not to upset him.
