Not sure what to say?

In 1968 I first met Marty when I was a first year teacher/coach - he was always kind and helpful with any issues I may have had during my career- I never worked for him but Marty never forgot me as over our careers we would see one another periodically and he would take time to catch up on how we were both doing - he was the best and I was saddened when I heard of his passing and I will never forget the influence he was in my 50+ year career - God Bless. We lost a dear friend and leader this week. I will forever be grateful to Marty for the opportunity he gave me at South Shore HS. I was honored to follow him as boys track coach at South Shore. As a young coach, it helped having someone of his stature and experience have the trust in me to take over what he had started. It's been 30 years since I left "The Shore" and moved to Houston, but thankfully we kept in touch. Thank you for all you did.

Always a gentleman coach, Marty and I shared years as commissioners of our leagues. When last I saw him, while walking to our cars from Van Cortlandt's flats, he graciously said, 'George, you made my day.' He is in my thoughts and prayers.

I was saddened to learn of Marty's passing. As a young coach, Marty, took me under his wing and was instrumental in my program being successful. Track and Field has lost a giant and I have lost a mentor and friend.

You unselfishly dedicated yourself to others. From all those Brooklyn
runners, thank you

I began coaching 39 years ago and Marty was a mentor -- He always had time for me -- He was a wonderful man - May he rest in peace

i

knew Marty the past fifteen years as a Track and Field Official. Marty was

a gentleman who was very passionate, for the sport of track. Marty always greated

me with a smile and a bit of advise. He will be missed.

I knew Marty for over 40 years. He was a mentor and friend, a decent and honest man, one of the most important people in track and field. He will be remembered dearly by all.

Marty was a good and caring man who helped people through track & field. Like many of us tracknuts, he embraced anyone who loved the sport like he did, and welcomed their contribution even if he would have done it differently. Unlike many, he embraced change when he saw it was for the better and was always quick to give others the credit he thought they deserved. He helped me greatly in many of my projects, and I enjoyed collaborating with him. I will miss my friend, Marty Lewis. Both I...
