One of the best teachers ever!

Never forgetting such a fine person. Hopefully you are all remembering the good times and celebrating in your hearts his life, well lived.

I remember a kind, gentle man met a the Atlantic City, then 'Memory Walk'.

I first met Martin Manning in 1954 when I reported to Marine Barracks, Sasebo, Japan. 1st Lt. Manning was a platoon leader and I was a 19 year old PFC. By 1956 I was a corporal in charge of the mail for the Barracks and in reading the official mail, urgently seeking the results of a recent Sergeant's exam, I came across the papers announcing Lt. Manning's promotion to Captain. As I delivered his mail I congratulated him on his promotion. Fifteen minutes later I received a call from our Sgt....

Even though I used to get in trouble in his class from time to time, I always liked him and the class he taught at CBA. It always made me think in more complex ways. It saddens me greatly to hear of his passing.

I will forever remember Marty as he was my absolute favorite teacher of all time. I had his anthropology/sociology course at C.B.A. and will always remember his encouragement and kindness I graduated in '76.

Marty was simply the best teacher I ever had. I also considered him a friend. When I suffered a spinal cord injury 1978 he was one of the teachers who tutored me in the hospital. When I returned to CBA in the middle of my junior year is a quadriplegic he welcomed me into his class. His focus with us during junior and senior years was history and American Government. Since we used current events as part of our curriculum and it was during the Iranian hostage crisis, it was the most fascinating...
