Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home - Westchester Obituary

Martin T. Quinn of Oak Park formerly of Westchester, age 84. U.S. Army Veteran. Beloved husband of Anne, nee Flood; loving father of Muriel (Robert Pasin) Quinn, Martin (Amy) Quinn, Jennifer (Reid Broda) Quinn Broda and Patrick (Ronda) Quinn; proud grandfather of Helen, Henry, Oscar, Linus, Trey, Patrick, Lillieanne, Katelyn, Kenneally, Saoirse, Seamus, Quinn, Malcolm, Max and Charlie; dear brother of Patrick (Sylvia) Quinn; fond uncle of many.

Marty was born in Chicago, the second son of Irish immigrants, Henry and Anna Mae. He referred to himself as the original latch-key kid as his parents ran a small convenience store on the west side of Chicago. He met his wife Anne during high school at a party at her house. He adored Anne and her large West Side Irish-American family, The Floods. Soon after they married, Marty was drafted into the army serving for two years in Germany. For 40 years, Marty was a proud, union lithographer. Marty and Anne raised their four children in Westchester and were active members of the Divine Infant Parish Community. One of Marty’s greatest joys was coaching the DI Miracle football team. He was the frequent host of many neighbors for front porch gatherings at the house in Westchester. Upon his retirement, he became a full-time grandfather providing daily babysitting, attending countless athletic events and concerts, chauffering to many play dates and camps, and helping his grandkids ditch school (behind their parents’ backs). For many years Marty volunteered with the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Divine Infant and served the homeless at PADS with the St. Giles Family Mass, making good friends with both the servers and those served. He was a huge fan of Notre Dame football and the Chicago Bears. Despite the rest of the family rooting for the Cubs, Marty was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan (for reasons the family still does not understand). With both bravery and stubbornness, Marty battled many health issues in recent years but never lost the twinkle in his eye, his infectious smile, or his loving spirit. He was beloved by all and will be greatly missed.

Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All to meet Wednesday at St. Giles Church, 1045 Columbian Ave., Oak Park for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass. (The mass will be livestreamed at https://youtube.com/live/4jYPSM9r1Lw?feature=share ). Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Vincent DePaul Society (www.stvincentdepaulchicago.org) or Housing Forward (www.housingforward.org) appreciated. For funeral info 708-F-U-N-E-R-A-L.

Single Memorial Tree

Our sympathies to all that have been left behind. May you find comfort in your memories.

Anne, you and your entire family have my sincere sympathy. Marty was such a good, kind person and I will miss him. I remember fun times with him and Paddy at the Holidays when I was a little girl. The big meals Auntie Mae would serve at Thanksgiving and the Quinns coming to our house for Christmas. Joann would say “hide the new toys, the Quinn boys might break them.” Special times, special memories. When Mickey wrote her note she meant every word. We will raise a toast to him at every...
