Mrs. Anderson was a dear person and great teacher. High school was an emotionally difficult time for me. Her class was a calming place. It is amazing what you can do as a student, when you have a teacher who believes in you and encourages you. She once recommended that I check out Wuthering Heights from the library. She thought I would enjoy it. I certainly did!

I am devastated to hear of Mary's death. And absolutely thrilled to see the comments from her many former students. How much she would have loved that! I knew Mary well after her retirement and never knew she was a teacher! Her husband, Harry Anderson, was the brother of Arthur Anderson, known generally by one and all as Arturo, or 'Turo. Turo was the husband of Christine Anderson with whom I played music for two pianos for 30 years. I took piano lessons for a while from Harry and yes,...

I was fortunate to have Mrs. Anderson for my English Lit. class at Crawford. She gently pushed me to do the very best I could. I so appreciated her and her teaching methods that when I went on to college, she was the only teacher I sent a thank you note to. She had such class and showed so much compassion for all her students. Life well lived, Mrs. Anderson! Thanks for all you did for me and the appreciation of English literature that I carried with me. I continue to be an avid...

I still think of Mary often and the times we spent together. She was such a wonderful , kind person. I know she was a positive influence in many of the lives she touched.

Mrs. Anderson was my favorite high school teacher...actually my favorite teacher ever! Whenever the topic of high school memories comes up, she continues to be my first thought. A quiet and gentle woman, her heartfelt passion for literature and poetry led me (and my classmates) to an even deeper appreciation of the written word. Her classroom was a safe place to fully explore and embrace the emotions evoked by the works of John Keats and other poets we studied. I´m my senior year, I...

Mrs. Anderson had a very subtle way of inspiring students and was an excellent English teacher. She knew exactly what was going on in the classroom, even if she didn´t always let on. Because of her insistence that we keep a list of what we read during the year at Crawford, a practice I found useful to continue after high school, I have a lifetime record of my reading preferences. This is not only invaluable when trying not to buy books I´ve already read, it is a terrific jaunt down memory...

I remember Mary Anderson at the First United Methodist Church as we often sat in the same row. I did not realize she had been a member for 85 years, joining at the age of 12, according to what the church posted. I also remember her fondly when I ran into her at the cat food aisle at Vons since both of us have cats. I remarked to her once how cats can easily manipulate humans, and she laughed and agreed. I remember her for her friendliness and conversation. She was amazing.

Mrs. Anderson was my English teacher at Crawford High School. She was a good teacher and expected the best from each student. I do remember how excited she was when we had a visiting music teacher from England, Mr. Gray. She had him come and speak about English literature in our class. Rest in peace, Mrs. Anderson, I became a teacher and I love reading.
