BROACH, Mary Eck, 88, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012. Born in Richmond, Va., she was a daughter of the late Edgar Paul Eck and Mary Pohlig Eck. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Broach Jr.; her sister, Catherine E. Meagher; and her brothers, William J. Eck, Edgar C. Eck and M. Francis Eck. She is survived by Catherine's children, John J. Meagher Jr., J. Foster Meagher, Robert A. Meagher, Michael G. Meagher and Elizabeth M. Byrd; and the extended Eck and Broach families. Mrs. Broach was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a member and past president of the Catholic Woman's Club, a member of the Canterbury Garden Club, and for 21 years had been a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital. A wife, aunt, daughter, sister and friend, she touched the lives of everyone she met with laughter and a smile. Mary gave freely of her time and talents to many organizations over the years. She loved to travel with friends and family. Most of all, she loved us all with her whole heart and being. Having her family and friends around her were the times she cherished most. The family will receive friends from
2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where a Rosary Service will follow at 4:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery will be private. The family requests that memorial gifts be designated for Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital: Sister Mary Monica Good Samaritan Fund, in care of Bon Secours Richmond Foundation, 5875 Bremo Road, Suite 305, Richmond, Va. 23226.
