Mary Abbie Brown

Groton - Mary Abbie Brown, 90, of North Road, Groton, died Monday, June 29, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

She was born Nov. 15, 1922, in Groton, the daughter of Loren H. and Mary Hannah (Kenyon) Murphy. Mrs. Brown was married to Maurice W. Brown who died Dec. 22, 1998. She graduated from Robert E. Fitch High School in 1940 and had been employed by the Town of Groton for 24 years in the tax collectors office from 1958 until retirement in 1982.

She is survived by a son, Calvin M. Brown and his wife, Arleen, of Ledyard; a daughter, Linda B. Sadler and her husband, Charles, of Griswold; two brothers, Joel Murphy of Groton and Warren Murphy of Waterford; six grandchildren, Patrick and his girlfriend, Laura, Seth Sadler, Heath Brown and his wife, Jody, Toni Hopkins and her girlfriend, Alicia Alverson, Donna Oddo and her husband Gary and Arthur Cost; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Mel Murphy.

A Graveside Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. There are no calling hours.
