Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

BROWN, Mary A. ? Of Swartz Creek, formerly of Flint, age 97, died Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Church, 4413 South Morrish Road, Swartz Creek, Reverend Father Louis Ekka officiating.

Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Those desiring may make contributions to St. Luke's New Life Center.

Visitation 12-3 and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.

A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brown will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the Mass.
Mary was born in Newberry, Michigan on May 21, 1918, daughter of the late John and Frances (Lauric) Knaus.

On September 15, 1940 she married Glenn C. Brown in Munising, Michigan.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She belonged to St. Agnes Catholic Church for 58 years until its closing, St. Agnes Altar Society, St. Agnes Senior Citizens, Alger County Historical Society and St. Mary Queen of Angels.

Mary volunteered at North End Soup Kitchen for 15 years.
She loved to walk and bowl.

Mrs. Brown was employed by GMI in the cafeteria as cashier and performed all duties for 10 years, retiring in 1986.

Surviving are children, Patricia and husband Dennis Miller of Swartz Creek,
Linda Gerren of Essexville,
David and wife Paula Brown of Apache Junction, AZ,
Kenneth and wife Jean Brown of Houghton Lake;

daughter-in-law, Wilma Brown of Colorado Springs, CO;

11 grandchildren;
17 great-grandchildren;
sister, Betty and husband Don Hakanen of Chatham, MI.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; sons, Gary and Daniel; grandson, Robert Gerren; brother, Frank Knaus; sisters, Tillie Breyman, Emma Shirilla, Olga Hepfinger and Alvina Boye and step-father, Max Knaus.
