Ferguson Funeral Home - Scottdale Obituary

Mary E. Burkhart 97 of Dawson (Lower Tyrone Township) passed away at 11:58 AM Friday, January 24, 2025 in Independence Health System’s Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant. Mary was born November 23, 1927 at Everson Valley, a daughter of the late George Christopher and Anastasia (Smith) Herrington. She was married for 75 years to Karl E. Burkhart Sr., who passed away on November 13, 2023.


 


Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, She was a graduate of Scottdale High School, Class of 1945 and a longtime and faithful member of Jacobs Creek United Methodist Church.


 


Mary will be sadly missed by her loving family; her three sons, Karl Burkhart Jr. and wife Melanie (Patterson) of Florida, David Burkhart and wife Patricia (Patton) of Dawson, and Timothy Burkhart and wife Michele (Wengryn) of Greensburg; her grandchildren, Jennifer Morrow (Justin), Jaime Martin (Geof), Sarah Plant (Christopher), Andrew Burkhart, Nicolas Burkhart, and Rachel Burkhart; her great grandchildren, Justin Morrow (Addison), Joel Morrow, Rebekah, Samuel, and Alma Plant, and Grayson Martin; her great-great grandchildren, Jaxen and Aycen Morrow;  her sister, Eleanor Hyatt of Mount Pleasant; her two sisters-in-law, Joann Burkhart of Scottdale and Patty Baird of Mineral Ridge, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, George Herrington Jr.; and her sister, Anna Mae Hixson. 


 


Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and friends will be received from 10-11 AM Friday in the Mount Olive Evangelical Church followed by funeral services at 11 AM Friday with Pastor Lee Maley officiating. Private interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery next to her late husband. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Mark Williams for his loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, 1645 W 8th St., Erie, PA 16505. Love Lasts Forever!
