Mary Jane Butera

I saw Mary Jane as a patient some years ago. When she walked into the office, everyone would gather round to talk to Mrs. Butera. She was just an absolute delight. She had something nice to say to everyone and her smile was infectious. She lifted everyone's spirit. We were supposed be the care providers, but Mary Jane gave so much more than she received. I will always remember her warm smile and uplifting spirit. She was a gift to all of us who knew her.

Barry: I cannot believe it has been a year since your Mom died. I know that all of you in the family miss her terribly. I always remember how wonderful she was to Tres when he was in Lake Castle New Orleans. Hope all is well with your whole family.

I went to Lake Castle from the 3rd grade through to 8th grade. Mrs Butera was a great teacher who more importantly made you think for yourself. That whole time there Mary Jane & Clendon shaped how I saw the world. I still remember the retort of Clendon to an errant student to see him at 2:15 & recall how sweet Mary Jane´s mom, Mrs Schiro was in substituting & even as the pick-pocket lady at the school fair. I don't even know where to begin writing about the generous and loving impact Ms. Mary Jane had on the UNO Music Department. It started for me in Fall 2001 when she sat in the last row of my piano class room on the first day of class. Upon seeing her last name on my roster I asked if she was indeed related to the Lake Castle Buteras. My son, Clayton was attending the Madisonville campus and was in the first grade. The sentiments shared on this page provide only a glimpse into this wonderful woman´s life. She lived so fully and was an inspiration to every person she crossed. I wasn´t fortunate enough to be taught by her, but by her talented daughters and reminisce on my experiences when such fondness. My daughter and nephews now attend Lake Castle, and it is a pillar of integrity and true success, all due to the efforts of Mrs. Mary Jane and Mr. Clendon. What a legacy she has left. Mrs. Mary Jane was such a sweet soul! I was one of her scholarship recipients at UNO, I´m the masters of music program. I am grateful for her generosity. She was so kind!
