Jeff & David, My thoughts and prayers are with you. Your mom was a special and very talented woman. I remember having my cello lessons in the little music room with her. She was very patient with me in my attempts to learn how to play. I appreciate that. Her talents touched a whole section of cellists at Kalamazoo Central High School, and many more beyond that. I am fortunate to have crossed paths with her. My sympathies are with you.

As one of Mrs. Butler´s many students, I´m deeply grateful for her instruction. She was an insightful teacher who always demanded the best from me. I´m very sad to hear of her passing and extend my deepest condolences to her surviving family and associates.

From the time Mary and Herb arrived in Kalamazoo we became fast friends - playing in the Kalamazoo Symphony in particular. I remember Mary and I had to sit with 2 left handed cellists (Herb being 1)which made us look backward and confused every guest conductor who came along. I have many happy memories and I considered her one of my best friends.

So sorry to hear...Mary was important to me as an early teacher and much later as a colleague and friend. My memories are good music and good laughs.
