Mary Rose Calvillo born on August 16, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas, went to be with the Lord on October 5, 2019 at the age of 79. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cleto Martinez and Teressa (Garza) Martinez and brothers, Rodolfo Martinez and Tony Martinez.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years David Calvillo; daughter, Christi Goldberg and husband Craig; son, David John Calvillo and wife, Lori; brothers, Robert Martinez and wife Rebecca, Cleto Martinez Jr. and wife, Elaine; sister-in-law, Margaret Martinez; grandchildren, Alejandro Calvillo, Analisa Calvillo, Keefe Goldberg and Sydney Goldberg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mary Rose was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. As a proud 1959 graduate of Fox Tech High School, she went on to pursue a hardworking and profound career as a licensed vocational nurse and operating room technician for over 35 years with the Baptist Health System hospitals. Her strong and strict work ethic never went unnoticed by her team of nurses and many recognized her as the best. As a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Mary Rose would often participate in events such as their annual festival helping make delicious hamburgers for the public to enjoy. She had an artistic side and put her talents for art into many craft projects for everyone to enjoy. Mary Rose had a special place in her heart for her adoring grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. She will be missed dearly by everyone that knew and loved her.
The family of Mary Rose would like to acknowledge their appreciation to the wonderful staff of Embrace Hospice for their sincere care, help and support.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. in the Hillcrest Chapel. Procession will depart Hillcrest on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. for Mass at 11:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. (Shelter #1)
Donations may be made in Mary Rose’s name to: Capital of Texas Chapter Alzheimer’s Association.
