Not sure what to say?

It is with great sadness that I learned today of both Mary Margaret’s passing and of most recently, Skip. I am filled with both gratitude and sadness. My most recent memories are of them at a lobster night at The Antlers!

I wanted to add something to the note I wrote about Mary Maragaret. When I found Leland's name during my Google search, I thought, "I don't recall that was his name, but whatever." After I wrote my note, I looked at some of the notes from other folks and thought, "Aha! That's why 'Leland' sounded unfamiliar: because she always called him 'Skip.'"

I worked for Mary Margaret during the 1988-89 school year when she was running the Publications and Statistics area of the graduate school at Cornell. Dear Skip: I am so sorry for your loss. Our whole family have such fond memories of you and Mary Marg at the Eagle`s Nest. My Jim died 20 years ago and I know the empty hole in your heart when you lose your other half. Time does have a way of easing the pain.............................. Thinking of you, Ene

Thank you for being the best role model and one of the most influential people in my life. You showed me what its like to love someone and what its like to receive it. Me and ben will miss you every day. I love you grandma and im so happy i had 22 amazing years with you.

It is hard to imagine Skip without Mary Margaret and the grief and sadness must be very hard on the family. I can still recall them together at the Baker Institute yearly holiday luncheons when they (and I) were still able to attend. They will always be in my heart as a true example of what a loving, well matched, married couple should be. All my deepest sympathy especially to Skip, someone I worked with at the Institute for many years. Enduring all the losses we face in old age is one of...
