I was in the hospital when the visitation and funeral took place. I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it to either. I always had a lot of respect for Sister Mary de Lourdes. I believe she was insightful and had very good advice for me while my 2 boys were in elementary school there. I would have liked to celebrate her life with others from St. Edward's Parish. She will be greatly missed. Sandra A. Falcon

I was blessed to begin my teaching career in Catholic education under the guidance of Sr. Mary DeLourdes. Wonderful memories of her, Sr. Julia, and her beloved staff! Still teaching today, I continue to value lessons learned under her loving guidance.

I called Sister in April 1984 and asked her, "Do you have any teaching openings for my fiancé? I'm in Tulane Medical School and my future wife will be joining me in New Orleans and she wants to teach in the Catholic School System." Luckily, Sister had an opening and Robyn started teaching at St. Edward's in the Fall of 1984. Sister was a great mentor for Robyn and for me. She was always looking out for us as a new young married couple and she was so kind to us during the four years that Robyn taught there. My fondest memory was of Sister and Sister Julia in their clown outfits at our home on Napoleon avenue for Mardi Gras. She really knew how to have a good time! All these years later, Robyn and I think of you fondly and know that you are greatly loved.

As I have grown older, I've come to appreciate your wise guidance and focus on self-discipline more and more. You touched a lot of lives and will be missed. I can't envision St. Edwards without you. I'm glad I was a student under your charge back in the 80's.

my 7 years on staff at St. Edwards. I fondly remember her calling "FA THA" over the intercom / phone and her birthday lunch favorite at Port of Call, hamburger and a beer, Snickers to follow. We miss her as all of her family and friends do. It is in the mystery of God's great wonders that we are not with you but, with our new great-granddaughter at the hospital. My heartfelt sympathy to all those who loved this wonderful woman. Sr. Mary D and I, although living and working on opposite sides of the river were roomies for years at the annual Adm. Conferences. She was the life of the "party" and was welcomed into all groups. If she knew you, you would always be her friend. I always admired her love of the Lord, how she headed such a wonderful school as "St. Eddie the Con", and her deep love for her family and the SLW sisters.

Thanks Mary D. for being a wonderful mentor to me as I began my years in administration.

In loving memory of my 2nd grade teacher (1955-1956). It's been a long road for both of us (almost 60 years!) but I haven't forgotten you and loved finding you at St. Edward when I moved to the neighborhood a few decades later.

You did good, Sister. Amen.

With much love,

Sister definitely went to heaven. Such an inspiration to many, and she will continue to be in our hearts forever.

I was so saddened to learn of the passing of Sister Mary De Lourdes. I was a student at St. Edward's from 1973-1981 and I am a better person for it. I learned discipline, respect and how to live my catholic faith. She was tough but one of the sweetest people I have ever met and I am so thankful that she was part of my life. She will truly be missed but I have no doubt her legacy will live on through St. Edward the Confessor school.

Sister Mary De Lourdes Charbonnet, was an inspiration to many people. When I went to St. Edward The Confessor, I knew I was in a great school. Sister, led so many people in great directions. Being principal must be a hard job, and sister never complained. Everytime I encounterd her in school, she would always have a smile, and greet me with "Hello, Hun!" I can remember when I was in sixth grade, I went to knock on her door during school, to give her a present. Sister, welcomed me in, and asked me to sit down with her, and have some tea. Being that it was in the middle of a school day, I really couldn't sit down. Looking back now, I wish I would've sat down, and got to know more about her. Sister really taught me what it's like to be a Christian gentleman. May Sister rejoice at the coming of your glory and enjoy eternal happiness with all of your saints.

The world was a better place because she was here. I am one of the many children who are better for having had her in my life for nine years. She was an amazing woman, who was not only stern, but compassionate as well. Heaven welcomed a new angel on Saturday...rest in peace

I fondly remember Sr. Mary deLourdes stern discipline to straighten the rowdy middle schoolers yet loving smile and tender heart with the babies and junior high. Whenever I hear her name, I recall the song written by my brother David Treadway, et al. honoring her many years ago after his class reunion. Many fond memories of St Edward, the families there, the teachers, and all the sisters, but especially Sr. deLourdes. Such a treasure, and great legacy she left with her many students and families as well as the many lives she touched.

When I first went to St. Edward's open house and listened to Sr. Mary talk about her school I new I was in the right place. Being in her presence reminded me of my days being taught by nuns in catholic school. They'll never be another Sr. Mary de Lourdes. God Bless You, Sister!

Sr. Mary de Lourdes was such a strong woman. I think she inspired a lot of us as young girls to stand strong not only in your religious beliefs, but individual beliefs. She taught us all the true meaning of community. Even today, I find my relationships with my St. Edward's classmates are stronger than many others. She was a truly wonderful individual and all of us were blessed to have had her in our lives. My prayers go out to all who are experiencing this loss.

My deepest sympathies to all of the St. Edward community. As a former student Sr. Mary de taught me so much about the Catholic Religion. She made so many Bible stories memorable as she taught the 2nd graders and prepared them for First Communion. . As a young child, she not only gave me a religious background but inspired me to become a teacher and gave me my first teaching job. She taught me so much about love, dedication and community. So many that attend St. Edward know the meaning of this because she not only taught but lived it. Sr. Mary de will be missed.

Being the first organist at St. Edward, Sr. Mary de Lourdes and I had come to know each other not only as my "school boss" but we became good friends. She loved music, and after she requested her favorite hymn during communion, Jesus, Thou Art Coming {#51 in the Old St. Basil Hymnal) I played it for every time she was in attendance at Mass. She always waited for me and said "Thank you Hon,It was so beautiful". We go back to when Mass was celebrated in East Jeff Auditorium to St. Edward cafeteria, and finally the New St. Edward Church.A wonderful person, kind of heart, and spirit. I was fortunate to have had her teach my children, and many of my grandchildren. The Good Shepherd has his kind arms wrapped 'round you forever.

She was truly a gift from God. Though she was a strict disciplinarian and a “no-nonsense” principal, she was also, as good leaders are, wise, kind and compassionate. She instilled in us values of discipline, hard work, loyalty, love of God, love of country, respect and perseverance, and she loved us enough make sure we learned them well. She knew how to work hard and when to be serious, but also when to cut loose and have fun. I have fond memories of her at my parents' house celebrating Christmas Eve, getting revved up for academic competitions, and riding the ‘superslide' at the Cochon de Lait. Her impact on the lives of St. Edward's students cannot be underestimated. Above all else, she taught us, by her leadership and her example, what it meant to be devoted to Jesus Christ.

To Sr. Julia, Sister Mary deLourdes' family, and her Sisters of the Living Word family - I am truly sorry for your loss. My condolences and prayers are with you.
