Mary Anne Chew

Say it isn´t so. Mary Anne has been my friend since fifth grade. And, our mothers were friends. From visiting her and Frank in Atlanta in the early `70´s (?) to her `holding my hand´ and providing encouragement and support as I navigated the decision-making and moving processes of moving to a CCRC, MaryAnne has been a life-long, albeit long distance friend. I shall miss her holiday letters and having her an e-mail away to discuss big decisions, or just the finer points of a grammatical...

I remember Mary Anne best from sitting next to her in the choir at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation. She was a great music sight reader and I depended on her when learning hard new music. She was also a good friend, and I enjoyed Christmas caroling parties that she arranged. I will miss receiving her masterpiece homemade Christmas cards and marveled at her computer skills in creating them. I will miss her.

Mary Anne was a wonderful friend, always positive and upbeat. We met as members of the Horizon Theatre board and remained friends after we had both retired. She and Frank welcomed me into their home on many occasions. I especially remember Frank and Mary Anne´s "150th birthday party," when their vast collection of friends and family celebrated their combined birthdays. What a special person and teacher. The Dykes High School Facebook page has many of us formers students commenting on her uniqueness as a person and her special gift as our teacher. She is remembered with much fondness and appreciation for what she taught and exemplified for us.

It is so sad to think of Mary Anne´s having walked on! My heart goes out to her children.

A most talented and kind person. She was a good friend and always looking for ways to contribute or to make things better for other people. She was conversant on so many subjects, reflecting her wide interests and considerable intelligence. I know I'm not alone in appreciating her friendship and her example. I'm glad she and Frank had so many years together.

She was the best teacher many of us had in high school. She was super creative, taught us to think independently, and offered plenty of individual encouragement to students. (Dykes High School)
