San Antonio, Texas
Sep 4, 1934 – Dec 2, 2015
Mary Katherine Cluck, 81, of Lakehills, TX passed away on December 2, 2015. She was born in San Antonio, TX on September 4, 1934 to William Jennings Bryant McElwee and Bernadette Kathleen Leonard.
Mary was known as “Mary K,” “Mom,” and “Grandma,” to those close to her.
To Mary K, her family was the absolute most important part of her life. After losing her husband, Morgan in 1970, Mary K took on the roll of provider, and single-handedly raised her four children. She worked hard and did whatever it took to provide her family with the things they needed. In a few instances, she worked multiple jobs, and owned her own business for a brief time. She eventually was hired by Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, where she worked as a Diet Technician for 26 years.
Mary K was one of the kindest, most selfless individuals you could ever meet. She always put the needs of her children and others before herself.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, and cooking. She loved animals, and was especially fond of her golden retrievers, Duncan and Sully, who passed away last year, and her two dogs, Maggie and Ginger.
Mary K was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Cluck, parents, William and Bernadette McElwee, sister Barbara McElwee, and brother William “Butch” McElwee. She is survived by her four children, Linda Stilwell and husband Bob of Bandera, Steve Cluck and wife Jana of Lakehills, Brian Cluck and wife Diana of Lakehills, and Kellie Cluck, also of Lakehills. She also leaves behind her three grandchildren, James Cluck, of San Antonio, Sarah Stillwell of Boerne, and Tyler Cluck of New Braunfels, and one great-grandchild, Jaxson Cluck, who she was very excited to meet when he was born in October.
A memorial service will be held in Mary K’s honor at Hillcrest Funeral Home located at 1281 Bandera Rd in San Antonio on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:30am.
"A Grandmother's Love”
by Karen Mortensen
As children, we can't comprehend or fully realize the meaning of a grandmother's love. How wise she is, how much patience she has, or how much guidance she gives us by her example and by her helpful caring ways. Years go by before we know and understand the depth of her concern and the love in her protectiveness. But as we mature we do finally understand and we can look back and see through older eyes and wiser hearts her unconditional love, devotion, and family loyalty. It's these and many other things that make us realize how lucky we have been and how lucky we are to have this amazing woman - our grandmother - as the centered root of strength and love in our life.
