Beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Rose Comunale, of North Bangor, PA, passed away at the age of 89 on Sunday, June 30th, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.


Mary was born in Bangor, PA on September 5, 1934, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Josephine (Romano) DeMaria.


She was the wife of the late, Frank P. Comunale who passed away on December 25, 2021. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in May 2021. Mary was a 1952 graduate of Bangor High School. Over the course of their marriage, Mary and Frank formed multiple businesses. In 1958, they formed Comunale Construction Company which is still operating in its third generation by her son, Frank C., and grandson, Frank Jr. In 1990 they developed and established Mt. Bethel Plaza, providing sixteen businesses both professional and retail to the Slate Belt area. They also founded Mt.Bethel Beverage which is now owned by daughter, Mary Jo and husband, Sam Krafty. Mary and Frank also co-founded Camp Charles Campground with brothers, Carmon and Tony Comunale. In addition to running multiple businesses with her late husband Frank, Mary was a devoted mother raising five children.  She was involved in all of their lives from the school PTA to volunteering with the Bangor Wrestling Club.  She was also very proud of her large family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  


Mary was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Roseto, PA, and as a breast cancer survivor was named in Pennsylvania’s Breast Cancer 67 Counties-67 Women Coalition.


Mary is survived by two daughters, Michelena Smith and husband, Ted, and Mary Jo Krafty and husband,  Francis "Sam", one son Frank C. Comunale and wife Louise, daughters in law Mary Ann Comunale Cerino and husband, Nelson, and Desiree Comunale wife of the late James P. Comunale, and a sister Patricia Bray all of Bangor, PA.


Fourteen grandchildren Frank Comunale, Jr. and wife, Ashly, Maria Comunale and fiancé, Clem Mellott,  Anthony Comunale and wife, Deb,  Daniel Comunale, and wife Mallory, Christina Cornish, and husband Marc, Samantha Krafty and partner, Patrick Denman, Elizabeth Maloney and husband Ryan,  Michael Krafty, Matthew Smith and wife Charlene, Michelena Furnish and husband  Chris, Gina Nichols and husband Adam, John Comunale, James Comunale, and Dominic Comunale.


Twelve great-grandchildren Marco and Franco Comunale, Maci and Emily Maloney, Jacob and Carter Smith, Chance and Josephine Furnish, Shay Nichols, Paul Cornish, Vincent Comunale, and Enzo Comunale.


Mary was preceded in death by her two beloved sons John P. Comunale and James P. Comunale, a brother Michael DeMaria, and two sisters Lucia Capone and Joanne Clewell.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 3rd at 11 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Third and Garibaldi Avenues, Roseto, PA. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday, July 2nd, and from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 3rd at the Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Lillian Lane, "Village of Johnsonville" Bangor, PA. Burial will be held at New Catholic Cemetery in Roseto, PA. Online condolences may be offered at gaffneyparsons.com. 


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Elevator Fund, Third and Garibaldi Avenues, Roseto, PA, or to the Comunale Family Scholarship Fund in c/o the funeral home, 4 Lillian Lane, Bangor, PA.
