Mary Jeanne DuCharme

This message is from Doris Horvitz, my mom, who met Mary and Gordon way before I became their neighbor in 1985. My mom would frequent the little coffee shop on California ave just north of touhy before going to work and often talked to them. She wishes to express her condolences, saying how sweet Mary was and how much love was shown each morning.

Mary and Gordon were welcoming to us from the first time we visited an open house before moving onto the block. Like Julie, we considered Mary the ears and eyes of the neighborhood and her loss will be deeply felt. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gordon and the rest of her family during this time.

I am so blessed to have such caring and vigilant neighbors. I considered Mary as the neighborhood watchwoman. I felt a sense of security living next to her. Our neighborly bond dates back to before I was born. She attended my parents' wedding and witnessed my brother and I grow up. I consider her as my "American Grandmother". She called me sweetie when I was younger but all along she was the true sweetie. My family and I will greatly miss Mary.
