Mrs. Evans, wife and mother, of Charlotte, NC, passed into the hands of paradise on May 12, 2005 after complications associated with her quadriplegia. She was born April 30, 1937 in East Chicago, Indiana to Walter and Angeline Piatek, who predeceased her in death.
Mary Ann retired as a Senior Teller with Wachovia. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in East Chicago, Indiana, and attended Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.
Mary Ann shared 48 years of marriage with her husband and friend Wayne C. Evans. She was a 25 year member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and host of Tuesday's Prayer Group at her home.
Surviving is her husband, Wayne; children, Cathy Ellen Malcolm and David Wayne Evans of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Jessica Rochelle Evans and Sarah Malcolm of Charlotte, and Kristen and Kelsey Malcolm of Hampton, VA; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Ralph Brunke of Munster, IN; and loving nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday, May 16, 2005 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road, Charlotte, NC 28210, with the Reverend John Starczewski, celebrant. Interment will be private. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 4 PM Sunday afternoon at McEwen Funeral Service, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte. The family will then receive friends until 6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please make all donations to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, the St. Vincent Columbarium Fund, or to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204 in Mary Ann's memory.
The family would like to thank Carolina's Medical Center-Pineville's ICU unit and its loving staff, who cared for her during her last days.
