BECKER RITTER ELMBROOK FUNERAL HOME Obituary

Born to Eternal Life on August 18, 2015. Mary Ellen Gaskell was born to Mary Spaight Gaskell and John Gaskell in East Troy, Wisconsin on January 8, 1919. She was predeceased by her parents, her dear sister Elizabeth and her dear cousin Mary Brennan. After John Gaskell died of tuberculosis in 1936, Mary Ellen and her mother and sister continued to live on the family farm for several years. Rural life was difficult for a woman and two young daughters, however, and they eventually moved to Milwaukee, where Mary Ellen worked for many years at Milwaukee County Hospital. A devoted baseball fan, Mary Ellen was a loyal supporter of the Milwaukee Braves in their day and later of the Milwaukee Brewers. She rarely missed a game on the radio and was particularly delighted when Milwaukee regained a place in the National League.

Mary Ellen is survived by her cousins Nancy Spaight Odom (Thomas) of Southern Shores, North Carolina; Daniel Spaight (Sue) of Oxford, Wisconsin; Karen Spaight of Garner, North Carolina; and many other relatives and friends. She will always be remembered with great fondness by the offspring of the late Mary Brennan, her cousin, and will always hold a special place in their hearts.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22 at St. Pius X Church, Wauwatosa (2506 N. Wauwatosa Ave) from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Private Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee.

Mary Ellen will be honored as a good and decent person; known for her humor and spirituality.

Not sure what to say?

I was an employee of the senior facility that Mary Ellen lived in. I loved talking with her. She had a sharp wit and was never afraid to say what she meant. She hated not being as independent as she wanted to be but was very appreciative of those who understood that and helped her. Rest in peace Mary Ellen.

Mary Ellen's work ethic and good nature bring into recall many fond memories of her as a co worker at Milw. Co. Hospital.
