Not sure what to say?

Mary Jo was a "true" citizen of Muskegon. She lived downtown, participated with City boards and committees, neighborhood efforts and community events. She was always positive and smiling. Mary Jo made a difference. She is missed.

Mary Jo, was a dear friend. She always opened her home to me when I was in Muskegon. There were some nights when we sat up at the kitchen talking abour our love for students until the wee hours of the morning.

My favorite Mary Jo story is this: while staying at her house the doorbell rang I opened the door and there were about 3 children standing outside the door and asked me, "Can Mary Jo come out and play?" Of course she went out and played I will forever remember her playing...

Mary Jo was a dear friend and will be truly missed!

She opened her home and her heart not only to myself but to those who knew her.

My favorite Mary Jo story is this: While in Muskegon, Mary Jo often let me stay at her home when I was in the area so I could break the monotony of staying in hotels. We would laugh and giggle stay up half the night drinking hot chocolate and talking about how much we loved working with children. One time while I was visiting there...

Mary Jo was one of the smartest and kindest people I ever met in the Financial Aid profession - which is full of smart and kind people.
I really valued her friendship and mentoring and the world will be a sadder place without her!

I am one of the blessed and fortunate people who knew Mary Jo. I knew her through her work at MCC, Nelson Neighborhood Improvement Association and other civic organizations. She may have left this earth, but she will never be forgotten. R.I.P., Mary Jo. You did well.

Whenever we are fortunate to find a friend we miss them when they leave us. Mary Jo's death leaves a hugh void with her Muskegon neighbors. She was a dedicated supporter of the Nelson Neighborhood Improvement Association for many years. As a board member and friend I will always try to honor her service to our community by keeping her dream alive for others. She would approve of that.

Nelson Neighborhood Improvement Association -Membership chairperson

My sincerest condolences to the McCann Family. As one of the many students Mary Jo helped navigate through the financial aid maze at MCC, I am extremely grateful for all of her help and her friendship after college. As her star on earth has dimmed, now it shines brightly in Heaven.

I had the good fortune to work with Ms. McCann when she was on the city of Muskegon Citizen District Council and also in her capacity as President of the Nelson Neighborhood Association. I loved her directness and dedication to the community. I hope that I'm able to touch as many lives as she did in her life.
My prayers are with her family during their lost.

In reading Mary Jo's obituary, I noticed the surname Krumm. I resided for the first 12 years of my life on Rosemore Ave just east of the Krumm family on E. Main St. My parents were friends with Bernard and Josephine Krumm as well as Mary and Tom Krumm, France and Mary Jo. I remember being at the elder Krumm home when Mary Jo was an infant. I recall that her grandmother mentioned that Frances had a baby girl born on Flag Day. I am now 74 years old and have lost contact with anyone from...
