Mary Mae Morgan

Mary “Mae Day” Morgan (76) of Lexington Park, MD departed this life after a lengthy illness. She was born on December 13, 1944, to the late Samuel and Florence Day. Mae attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School and Cardinal Gibson School in St. Inigoes, MD.

She was employed at the Naval Air Station at Patuxent River, MD, where she was a Program Assistant for over 32 years at the Child Development Center. She enjoyed her job and loved all the kids. They referred to her as “Mae Mae”. She was very proud of her nickname. She received numerous awards throughout her career, but the most rewarding part of her job was the many friendships she made with families from all over the world.

Mae was a faithful woman and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where she served on the Usher Board and the Outreach Ministry Committee until her later years when she decided to return to St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, “The Holy Church on the Hill”. She was also a dedicated supporter of the Anointed Powerhouse of Faith Outreach Ministries in Richmond, VA.

She was the caretaker of many and a stranger to none. To know Mae was to love her. She found great satisfaction in caring for her family, neighbors, and friends in any way she could. Mae was always very busy taking care of everyone she encountered daily, especially during her residency at the Lexington Park Senior Apartments. She got along with everyone. She was always very sincere with and if she needed to tell you what was on her mind, she did it with love. She never hesitated to share her opinion, whether you liked what she said or not.

Mae would always greet family and friends with a smile and her two favorite questions, “Did you eat?” or “Do you want something to eat?” She was always feeding somebody! Mae enjoyed her favorite pastimes including BINGO, playing cards and shopping at her favorite LP City Department Stores, also known by her as the “Y.S.” (yard sales).

She loved ALL of her family so much. She enjoyed spending time with her family and would always share stories about the “good old days”. She always let the younger generation of the family know, “if she had it, they had it” because she was a generous and caring person.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her daughters. Mae is survived by three daughters: Audrey Bowman (Milton) of Richmond, VA, Theresa Harvey of Lexington Park, MD, and Carrie Remied (Chuck) of Callaway, MD. She leaves behind two siblings: Margaret “Sissie” Pittman and Charles “Mike” Day both of Richmond, VA. As well as one sister-in-law: Helen Day of Lexington Park, MD and a special niece whom she was raised with like a sister: Agnes “Candy” Butler. She will also be missed by her very special son-in-law James Harvey, Sr., and her grandchildren: James Harvey (Keioki), Corey Harvey, Aaron Bowman, Antwon Remied, Brandi Alford (Sam), Samora, Samaya and Samia Alford, Aaliyah Harvey, Denver Remied, Samari Remied, Samari Harvey, Semaj Harvey, Nasir Bowman, and a loving goddaughter: Yvonne Brooks. Mae leaves behind dearest friends: Jeanette Rice and Ollie Flippen. She held a unique place in her heart for many, many friends and just to name a few: Nate Caine, Ann Miles, Dot Stout, Leroy Campbell, Stanley Baldwin, Melvin Butler, Theresa Reed, Christine Banks, and Dorothy Reed. She also leaves behind a host of dear friends, nieces, nephews, and other relatives too numerous to mention.

She is preceded in death by sisters: Theresa “Gertrude” Brown, Regina "Totsie" Mason and brothers: Albert, Jim, Johnny, Bernard “Tpool”, Thomas "Mook", Samuel “Bud”, and Leon “Link” Day.

Family and friends will unite on Monday, September 20, 2021 for visitation at 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 16922 St Peter Claver Rd, St Inigoes, MD 20684. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
