Aug. 14, 1950-Dec. 31, 2015 Mary Margaret Nelson was not only a high school and college English teacher, but also an inspiration, role model, and shoulder to lean on for all those who knew her. Her love of the Lord was evident in her daily actions and love for all those with whom she came in...

Not sure what to say?

I just learned of Mrs. Nelson's passing. I had her for 11th and 12th grade English at HTHS. Aside from the sports page, I did very little reading and really had very little use for high school in general except for playing sports and to hang out with friends. I remember to this day a meeting I had with her about two months into 11th grade. That meeting completely changed my educational outlook. I went on to college and I have been an accountant for the last 22 years. I even took a couple of...

With heartfelt sympathy to the family at this time. I knew Mary Margaret many years ago. (I taught Phillip in fourth grade at E.P.I.C. school) Mary Margaret always lit up a room with her smile and burst of positive energy... No task ever too small to accomplish. She loved being a teacher but her greatest pride was her family. Even though it has been many years since we talked her friendship is a gift. Lifting you each up in prayer.

Mary Margaret was my friend in high school. We were in DTD together. She is the reason I visited the Auburn campus and decided to attend there. She actually introduced me to my future husband - set up a blind date! Mary Margaret is also the reason I pledged Delta Zeta at Auburn. She was my big sister in sorority. We had lost touch over the past few years, but I remember her as full of life, energetic, a loving mother and wife. I never thought about it before, but she probably...

Mrs. Nelson was my favorite teacher during my high school years at Hewitt Trussville. She inspired me to try my best, and was always positive and caring. I am sure she had the same positive effect on many other students, as well as other teachers. She was a lovely person and and excellent English teacher, and will be missed by many people.

I was taught AP English by Mrs. Nelson at Ramsay. She was one of the best teachers I have ever had. She was extremely tough but very fair and encouraging. The lessons I learned from her have served me well my entire life and I now often proofread my children's papers! (Of course as I write this, I had to look up whether proofread was one word or two. So I can imagine the stern look she would give me for having to do so!) Most of all, as a follower of Jesus, I am glad to know I will see...

Mrs. Nelson was my senior English teacher 25 years ago and such an inspiration. I remember reading Macbeth together as a class with her. I also remember all the vocabulary tests, essays, and novels we read. She prepared me well for college. But, what I remember most was her kindness. May her family find comfort and peace in the days ahead.

Losing an irreplaceable friend like Mary Margaret Nelson, causes much reflection. My first encounter with her was through serving on a committee for a school award. This was one of the best experiences of my life. It allowed me to view her in action, working in concert with others toward a polished, well edited work. It provided the opportunity to see how fortunate our students were to have her leadership in the writing process. Through out her teaching career, she always took the high...

I didn't have Mrs. Nelson for a teacher but I always heard such wonderful things about her. Praying for comfort for her family during this time.

I had the privilege of knowing Mary Margaret when I was teaching at Hewitt Trusville. What a great friend, kind spirit, warm and gracious true friend she was to me. The many people she touched were so enriched by her love, her knowledge and her faith. She will be sorely missed. Love to the family.
