Mary O'Reilly Obituary

O'REILLY Mary Anne O'Reilly passed away at Sunrise Senior Living in Baton Rouge, La. on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the age of 83. A native of Pontotoc, Miss. and a resident of Baton Rouge, La., she was a graduate of Pontotoc High School and The Mississippi Baptist School of Nursing. She moved to New Orleans, La. in 1947 as a registered nurse to work at the VA Hospital. She married Patrick Henry O'Reilly, Jr. and they had four children. In 1968 they relocated to Baton Rouge, La. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law: Barbara and Robert Johnston of Old Metaire, La., and Beth and Greg Owen of Baton Rouge, La.; one son and daughter-in-law: William and Marina O'Reilly of Dallas, Tx.; seven grandchildren: Alissa Kantrow (Ted), Steven (Carrie), Kelly, and Kristy Menge, Alexandra O'Reilly, Robert Johnston (MIchelle) and Leslie Moore (Jonah); and seven great-grandchildren: Benton, Kohlmann, and Isabell Moore, Zachary and Lily Kantrow, Elizabeth Johnston, and Savannah White. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Henry O'Reilly, Jr.; son, Patrick Henry O'Reilly III; sister, Stella Elaine Potter; and her parents: William Thompson and Clara Hudson Potter. The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living and to the nurses at Hospice In His Care for the wonderful care and attention given to her. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, La., on Sunday, January 9, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m and will resume on Monday at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive, Baton Rouge, La., from 10:00 a.m. until Religious Services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. The Rev. Ken Carroll will officiate the celebration of Mary Anne's life, assisted by Fr. Doug Brougher. Donations may be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70815, Hospice In His Care, 3233 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd, Suite 102, Baton Rouge, La. 70816, or The Alzheimer's Associate of Louisiana.

I knew Mary Ann for a great number of years. She and her husband Pat were good friends who's relationships were greatly valued.
I know Mary Ann suffered during her last years but it is comforting to know she will be blessed with many good tomorrows.

Dear Barbara, Alissa, Beth, Bill and Families,
Kathryn and I share your grief and sadness. So much of our lives are intertwined from the days of young nurses' friendships that turned into family and blessings. We rejoice that Mary Anne has been released from pain to join her Heavenly Family. Our prayers and love are with you.
