OAKLEY, Mary Annepassed away peacefully in Paradise Valley on March 12, 2013. She was born in Greatneck, New York on September 4, 1924. Mary Anne was a graduate of Smith College and spent her working career primarily in the Washington D.C. area. She was employed as an administrative secretary at the Organization of American States The ambassadorial office for all the Central American states. Because of her vast knowledge of Spanish she also worked in the areas of interpretation and translation. She had a wide variety of interests which included: being a Republican Precinct Leader as well as wanting to see political action targeting for all peoples to be free, connecting with Christian Mission works and outreaches, a love of travel especially in Mexico, Central America and Spain and an interest in wild life of all kinds. She possessed a special love for the D. C. and Phoenix zoos. Mary Anne also had a special love for little children, enjoyed music and played the piano. She has no surviving immediate family members and she was preceded in death by her parents Berford S. and Emily Payson Oakley and her brother Berford. Mary Anne was my elder cousin. She was dedicated to family and her friends and always kept in touch via handwritten letters. She had a kind heart and sweet sensitive nature as well as a wry sense of humor. I will miss her sparkling eyes and warm love.
