LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor-director Tim Robbins' mother, musician Mary Robbins, has died. She was 78.
Robbins' father, Gil Robbins, died earlier this month.
Robbins says his mother died Sunday of a heart arrhythmia, just 12 days after her husband of nearly 59 years passed away. She died at the couple's home in Esteban Cantu, Mexico.
Mary Robbins studied music at the University of California, Los Angeles, and performed professionally in the 1950s.
She successfully battled colon cancer through nutrition and alternative medicine, eventually earning a bachelor's degree in holistic nutrition. She volunteered her services at a clinic near the couple's Mexico home.
Robbins says his mother "had a calm and cheerful demeanor, a sharp wit, a gentle spirit and a generous and loving heart."
She is survived by four children and four grandchildren.

To the children of Gil and Mary Robbins, I just learned of the passing of your parents in April, and I'm so sorry for your loss. I sang with The Occasional Singers in their final 1988-89 season, and spent many wonderful weekends in Milford with them. Whether we were making music or just relaxing by the pool, they made life so much fun. I had the privilege of singing two of Gil's compositions in recitals, and explored exciting 20th century choral music with them both. They were two very...

I learned, very belatedly, of Mary's death. I knew her when she and Gil were in the UCLA band in the late 40s and early 50s. Gil was drum major, Mary played the flute. Oh, what memories. And what a loss.

I am so sorry to learn of the losses of both your mother and father. They were such wonderful people. May happy memories replace your grief very soon.
Gabby and Adele ~ we know each other from the Occasional Singers, when you sang and I was the pianist.
Take good care.

Mr. Robbins and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I too lost my parents within 42 hours of each other, my mom first then my dad. Their love was so amazing.my mom had told me, he would follow her when the time came. Hold tight to the memories of all the good times, they really do make it somewhat easier. God bless you all

Tim,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
Losing my mom was one of the most difficult times in my life. It's almost two years and I still think I could pick up the phone and stop over the house and she will be there. She was 98 when she passed but that wasn't long enough. God bless you and keep you close in this trying time. You are a fine actor and I have enjoyed your work for many years. God Bless...

Mr. Robbins & extended family members,
My heart is saddened to hear the news of your mother's & father's passing in such a short time span.
I, too, lost my father 4 yrs. ago & I can say without a doubt that I am not the same person as I was before.
May God bless & be with you during your time of sorrow.
May you also find peace during this time & rest assured that they were very proud have you as their son.
