Mary Kathleen (Turmel) Sacenti, 76, passed away peacefully into Eternal Life on July 23, 2025, with her loving son by her side. She was born in Springfield on November 18, 1948, and raised in Chicopee, a beloved daughter of the late Lucien J. and Kathleen M. (Sullivan) Turmel. Mary was raised in a loving Catholic home, which included her grandfather, Thomas Sullivan. She attended Holy Name High School and, in 1970, earned her Bachelor's Degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, and went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from Westfield State College. Mary was employed for 34 years as a teacher in Chicopee, retiring in 2004. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Mary was the devoted wife and best friend of Richard Dante Sacenti, who predeceased her in 2018. They were married on July 25, 1998, and were blessed with over 20 years of happiness together. In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed gardening, entertaining, decorating, the ocean – especially Hampton Beach – and traveling with Richard. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. Mary was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother. She was a cherished friend to many and in turn was blessed with life-long friendships. She enjoyed a rich life, filled with good times, laughter, and meaning. Mary leaves behind her devoted and loving son, Kevin M. Thompson, with whom she made her home. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Peter J. Turmel. She leaves her brother Paul J. Turmel (Barbara), and sister in-law Karen Turmel. The family would like to thank Dr. John McCann, of the D'Amour Cancer Center, for the excellent care he gave Mary, along with so many friends who were so caring and kind to Mary during her illness. We are forever grateful. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held for Mary on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00am in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA, with committal to follow in Calvary Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held in the church, prior to Mass, from 10:00 – 10:45am. Memorial donations in Mary's name can be made to the Springfield Rescue Mission, PO Box 9045, Springfield, MA 01102. Corridan Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
