Not sure what to say?

Mike and Matt,

I was privileged to know Mary Lou at The Wilsonville where she lived next door to my mother for two years. She was always so friendly, so well dressed, and ever the former school teacher. My husband and I enjoyed having her join us and Mom for the special dinners and activities where she became a part of our family as well. She encouraged others to get their daily exercise by walking in the garden and took a special interest in the art in the residents' rooms. I will...

Dear Mike and Matt,
I had the pleasure of working with your Mom at the Portland Art Museum on the installation of the Gebauer collection of African Art. Mary Lou was a delight to work with -- she was smart and savvy in a quiet and understated way. She knew her way around every big ego! And she sometimes surprised you with her wicked sense of humor...Mary Lou was also committed to seeing that the museum's collections served the entire community -- and she gently changed the notion that...

Mike, Matt and Families,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. You may not remember our family but we lived across the street from your cousins, Barbara and Dee Dee. Dr. Patricia Schiewe and my mom, Doris Snodgrass are sisters. I remember your mom loading you into the family car when you were both very young. I remember one of you had eyelashes that could have been french braided! My memories of your mom were of a woman that was gentle, soft spoken and kind. Your cousin, Barbara sent us...

Dear Mike & Matt,

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. I always remembered her as a beautiful woman so full of grace and charm. My family grew up across the street from your cousins Barb and Dee Dee. We are all very sad for your loss. Hopefully, you will be able to honor her memory by finding your happiness soon and carry her in your heart forever.

The Early Years

Mary Lou entered my life when I was in fourth grade Our friendship goes back a long time to Warren Grade School. I met Mary Lou and her sister Joan for the first time when her parents visited my grandparents in Warren, Oregon . From that moment on, we became close friends and remained so from fourth grade through Scappoose High School and when we left for separate colleges.

I have such warm memories of our giggling in school, riding our bicycles over...

Suttle Lake July 1950

As young married couples the Schiewe brothers Mark and Paul and their wives Pat and Mary Lou ventured together hiking, camping, and skiing, which at a later date became a rich source of very amusing stories told over and over to a captive audience of their children. Mary Lou would add her comments and laugh at the appropriate crescendo with her beaming smile. I am sure all the children now grown can tell the story of the Yellow Stone Park bear who became an unwelcome tent mate during the...
