Not sure what to say?

My husband (David Thomas) and I lived across the street from the Smoots in North Salt Lake. A more dedicated couple to the gospel of Jesus Christ I have yet to meat. David always said "Stan you prayed me here." Stan owned many plots of land in north salt lake and was looking for buyers. When I (Kay) during David's funeral and neighbors were bringing food to help us feed family, I was blessed to have Mary Ellen bring us the best taco soup, I have ever had. I would tell people that...

I did not realize Sis. Smoot had died. When you live outside of Utah-Idaho area, we sometimes don't find out things until weeks later. I was a young Mom with 3 little kids when Sis. Smoot became the General RS President. I always enjoyed listening to her at Conferences & other times. Thank you.

Dea Stana and Shauna: Thinking of you today with heartfelt sympathy and compassion. What a legacy of LOVE your parents provided to you and all the Smoot Clan!!! Your hearts are tender and full of gratitude because that is YOU! Love you both dearly and know that you will be comforted in heavenly fashion. Much love, Lisa Richards Monson

I'm one of the missionaries that served in the Akron Mission. Offering my condolences to the family at this time of reflection. I came into the Ohio Akron Mission, when she & her awesome husband had 6 months of service left in the mission. I served under another Mission President after they returned home. After my release from missionary service, I got to know the Smoots better with the delightful visits with them. They loved all the missionaries they served with.

I was happy to know Mary Ellen when I worked for their residential real estate company for several months. She cared about people and the growing community. She loved her growing family. I was happy she shared some experiences she had, as she listened to the spirit as her ward RS President. She ended up where she needed to be. I am grateful for her leadership and example. Wow! 1990 was a while ago, but she was a hard working person. An elect lady.

Heartfelt condolences to Kathy and Steve and all the wonderful family of remarkable Sister Smoot
