Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.

Mary left me with a hug and kiss the last time I saw her...She was a wonderful mother, and wife and friend whom I treasured very much. She will be in my heart and prayers forever as she set an example for others who have faced a serious illness...Blessings to her family and my deepest sympathy to them all.sending prayers for her family.....God Bless her...Bye for now Mary....

I just sadly learned that our community has lost one of it's brightest lights! Mary's strength, spirit and love for others even throughout her illness was amazing. She was an inspiration to all who met her and I will always be grateful for her kind support when my husband faced his own battle with cancer. My prayers are with the whole Steffens family.

Dear Steffens Family,
Please accept my most deep & sincere condolences in the death of Mary. I was very blessed and honored to know her. I know that I am a much better person due to Mary’s friendship with me. May the Lord watch over each of you and guide you during this very difficult time. I am very sorry. ~ Peace ~ Very Sincerely, Lance Oakland

Mary lived life to help others and I am so lucky to have met her. Mary was able to be happy and separate her illness from everyday life with such simplicity, she placed her focus on others and not her illness. She was strong, loving and most of all compassionate. Thank you for letting CNS support Mary and your family. I will keep Mary in my heart always and I hope to treat others as she did with love and compassion.

Mark Oswalt and Mary, October 2006

I'm so sorry that I can't be with you the next few days to remember Mary's life and so pleased that Mark is able to join you at this time. During the visits that we had with you all in Chicago I was struck by Mary's joy, pragmatic approach to her health, and certainty that good things were to come. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to know her and learned much from her during her time with us. We will miss her and remember her always.

Mary was such a kind and caring person, someone who will truely be missed. She will be in our hearts and prayers.

Mary and I were volunteers at St. Charles Borromeo for many years. Mary's faith and unconditional love was an inspiration to all. When Mary smiled, your heart was instantly filled with the Holy Spirit and you knew she was a "living angel" sent by God.

Mary was a inspiration to all.
She was the kindest person I ever met. She will be missed by everyone.
