Mary Frances Tuttle, 85, of Malcom died July 6, 2014, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson of Grinnell officiating. Pallbearers will be Jason and Brandon Tuttle, Eric Hodina, Jeremy Goodrich, Bart Willis and Jake Carnes. Burial will be in the Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or the Malcom United Methodist Church. Mary was born January 26, 1929, in Grinnell, the daughter of Lawrence and Laura Carmer Ballard. She was raised in Grinnell and attended school in the Grinnell School District. On January 19, 1946, she was united in marriage with Russell Tuttle in Troy, Kansas. The couple lived in Des Moines for several months prior to moving to their farm near Malcom in the fall of 1946. Mary was very involved with a lot of the farm work and raising her family. She later worked for the Malcom Mini Mart, Malzuma Inn, Malcom Laundromat, and Decorative Kitchens. Mary instilled a great work ethic among her family; she was very detailed and focused on all her activities. She was a very loving person, adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and never missed a birthday party. She loved the outdoors and her life on the farm. She enjoyed raising chickens, gardening, canning her produce, and cooking for her family. She kept busy sewing, crocheting, drawing, painting and making crafts. She looked forward to camping, fishing, playing Rolle Bolle and traveling, especially her trips to Canada visiting her daughter. Survivors include her husband, Russell of Malcom; three children, Russell (Irlene) Tuttle, Jr. of Malcom, Jack (Linda) Tuttle of Bloomfield and Shari Goodrich of Grinnell; eight grandchildren, Andrea (Jeremy) Goodrich, Christina (Bart) Willis, Jason Tuttle, Brandon (Lee) Tuttle, Michelle Carnes, Eric (Jamie) Hodina, Joel (Chase) Goodrich and Jill Goodrich; 25 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Shore of Ackworth. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Jack, Larry, Paul and Robert Ballard and one sister, Josephine Roberts.
