Mary Withers Umbarger

We first met Mary when we joined GPC in 1988. She made us feel so welcome. Over the years we served on various church committees, especially those for children's issues. Mary always opened her heart and home as we planned programs and activities. After her stroke, we were amazed at her determination to continue to live a full life. Mary was our neighbor when we lived in Washington for close to 18 years. A surrogate grandmother to my children, and a devoted friend, we will never forget her sharp mind, her wonderful optimism and sense of humor, her faith, her passion for justice and above all her courage. I treasure the memories of her extraordinary ability to touch the hearts of every one she knew.
