Mary Weiman Obituary

Mary Weiman
1958-2018
Mary Weiman died on October 28 after a two-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Steve; her step-daughter, Lesley Weiman; her brother, Joe Barnes; countless friends; and untold others whom she touched with her kindness. Born to a military family, Mary spent her childhood at Air Force bases round the United States and in Europe. She graduated from McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Alabama in 1976. In the early 1980s, Mary moved to Houston, where she earned a degree at the University of Houston and worked for many years in the natural gas industry. When she married Steve in 1997, Mary entered into a union that began in love, thrived on love, and, last Sunday, ended with Steve holding Mary's hand as she left this earth. For the last twenty years, Mary dedicated her time to dog rescue, helping to find new families and new lives for hundreds of unwanted Italian greyhounds and dachshunds. She always kept her own home full of dogs and, in her final illness, was comforted by Abby, Adam, and Sarah.
Mary had an astonishing capacity for joy. She was clever, funny and left a trail of laughter wherever she went. Mary loved trips with Steve to their house in Santa Fe where many friends came to visit. She enjoyed a glass of champagne with her friends and fussing about her dogs. She relished holding holiday dinners where the only thing more marvelous than the food was the conversation. She loved to joke with strangers she met on the street or in a checkout line. She reveled in talking about everything and nothing. Mary was, in short, glorious good company. But, above all, Mary was a generous soul who always found the time for a friend in distress or a pet that needed rescue. She was a bright, vivid creature. Everyone who knew Mary felt more alive for having met her.
Mary, a Roman Catholic, died in the faith into which she was born.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet, Bellaire, TX.
