Mary Wright

1947 - 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Mary Eleanor Wright on October 1, 2025, at the age of 77. Mary was born on December 4, 1947 in Lynn, Mass., to her loving parents Howard (Joe) and Helen Curry.

Mary moved to Alhambra, California with her parents in 1952 where she graduated from Alhambra High School (Class of '65), and caught the eye of Val Wright, the man she'd go on to marry. A few short years later, they relocated to Los Osos where they purchased their first home and established their family's San Luis Obispo County roots. Though the marriage was not as permanent as either of them expected, together, they raised 2 incredible children, Tim and Lindsey.

Mary was passionate about travel and got to visit diverse locations that include Russia, Ireland, Scotland, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Mexico, Peru, the Indianapolis 500 with Tim, Costa Rica with Lindsey, and numerous trips to Disney with her granddaughter, Lily. She loved to experience new places and people and every excursion brought new friends from across the globe. On these adventures, she developed an interest in photography as well as tracing and documenting her family history.

For nearly 40 years, Mary worked in the local SLO County banking industry. Though the names of the banks changed, her dedication to her work, other staff members, and customers never faltered. Her magnetic personality resulted in lifelong connections amongst coworkers and customers alike. Mary seemed to run into someone she knew no matter where she went - she even recognized a familiar face at the airport in St. Petersburg, Russia. She was a truly phenomenal woman; always surrounded by love, happiness, family and friends.

For many years, Mary was a devoted and active member of Xi Rho Sigma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, a social and philanthropic sorority. She held leadership roles within her chapter and contributed to numerous service projects supporting homeless assistance programs, educational scholarships and medical research organizations, including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford. Mary exemplified the core values of Beta Sigma Phi – life learning and friendship. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and share her warm welcoming smile.

Mary's legacy is one of unyielding kindness and generosity. Even with little to spare, she continued to give and help others. She loved her family and friends fiercely, taking pride in striving to be the best human she could possibly be. Her loss is deeply felt by her family and all those who knew and loved her. Mary's memory will continue to live on and inspire strength, resilience, and generosity in those whose lives she touched.

Mary is survived by her son, Timothy Wright; daughter and son-in law, Lindsey Wright and Matthew Faber; and her granddaughter, Lily Faber. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard J. Curry in 2004 and Helen M. Curry in 2009.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October, 28, 2025, at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park. Reception to follow at the Inn at Morro Bay from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
