Mary C. Zachry, 97 of Decatur passed away at Decatur Memorial Hospital on April 16, 2015 after a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Bement Cemetery, Bement, Illinois.
Mary was born on December 9, 1917 in Decatur, Illinois the daughter of Walter V. and Mary Slevin (McNamee). She was raised in Bement, Illinois and graduated from Bement High School. She attended Illinois State University. As a young woman she was employed by the Federal Bake Shop and traveled around the country managing bake shops. She returned to Decatur and was employed at the Blue Mill. She married Edwin L. Zachry on November 14, 1946 in Decatur, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2001. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed sports of all kinds and followed and supported all the local teams. She was an avid bridge player, playing well into her nineties.
Surviving are her children, James E. Zachry (Joni) and Charles L. Zachry, of Decatur. She leaves two granddaughters, Nicole Breslau (Benjamin) of Oswego, Ilinois, Danielle Zachry of Decatur, Illinois and one great grandson, Ethan Breslau.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.
