Matilda R. (Sarno) Gardner--95, A lifelong resident and homemaker of Somerville and late resident of Emerson Village in Watertown died after a long illness on November 27, 2010.
Matilda was the beloved wife of the late Walter Gardner and the loving mother of Lorraine R. Driver and her husband Dennis of Melrose. Matilda was the sister of the late Leo Sarno, Lucy DePaolo, Carmella DiLorenzo, Margaret Sylvester, and Eleanor Aurelia. Matilda was also the dear aunt of many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
The funeral procession will be held from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) in Somerville on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Benedict Church in Somerville at 10 o'clock. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 4-8 pm. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
Matilda was a devoted parishoner and a member of the Ladies Sodality at St. Benedict Parish.
