Matthew Patrick Barrett 1983 - 2015 Norwich - Matthew Patrick Barrett passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on November 23, 2015 at Hartford Hospital. He was born on April 5, 1983 in Norwich, CT, the loving son of James W. Barrett, Jr. and Kathleen A. Dufficy. Baptized in St. Mary's Church in Jewett City and a 2001 graduate of Griswold High School, Matthew was a kind, caring and compassionate person who loved his family and friends dearly. He strongly believed in respect and honor to those closest to his heart. He was proud of his Irish Heritage and loved animals, particularly his cat Vinny. Matthew enjoyed spending time with his family and he especially cherished his one on one time with his best buddy, Alex. Matthew is survived by his parents, James W. Barrett, Jr. of Lisbon and Kathleen Dufficy of Jewett City, his sister, Kelly A. Barrett, his brother, James Barrett III, his grandfather, Donald Dufficy, his partner and best friend, Kimberley Coffey and her son, Alex, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces, and many good friends. He was predeceased by his two loving grandmothers, Edith Barrett and Anna Dufficy. Matthew will be missed forever by his family and friends, but his love will live in the hearts of all who grieve him. His family would like to thank everyone for their love and support shown to them during this difficult time. We wish to extend our gratitude to the first responders on the scene of the accident, the emergency room staff at Backus Hospital, Life Star, the staff at the critical care unit of Hartford Hospital and especially his caregivers during his last precious hours of life. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, Jewett City at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015. Burial to follow at Pachaug Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Matthew's memory to SCADD, 37 Mooween Road, Lebanon, CT 06249.
