Matt was our VT lawyer for 20 years. There were many phone calls, but I never had the opportunity to meet him in person. I knew Matt through work, but we were good friends. He came to my home in Rutland Town when I had lymphoma in 2010, and we drove to George Nostrand´s funeral together in 2016. When George knew a couple who was divorcing, he would refer one side to Matt and the other to me. Matt and I always were able to negotiate an equitable settlement, so that both sides felt wounded as little as possible, sometimes even remained friends. I did not know he was ill. He was a very nice man. He helped us out and his property was just beautiful hiking through the woods he will be missed.

Matthew was extremely gracious and patient with my mother, as we trudged through the difficulties of setting the legalities of her will, along with plans for her care. He was a kind, friendly face around town from that point on.
