Funeral services for Matthew Dean Goudie, age 35 of Clarinda, IA, who died Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at University of NE Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska were held Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Andrew Rubenking officiating. Visitation with the family was held Friday, September 19, 2008 5-7 p.m. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa. Matthew Dean Goudie was born August 19, 1973 in Clarinda, IA the son of Hal Dean Goudie and Betsy (Horel) Goudie. He grew up in the Clarinda area and received his education in the Clarinda Community Schools, graduating from Clarinda High School in 1992. He attended Lamar Community College, Lamar, Colorado. Following his graduation from Lamar, he worked at Morton Buildings and then he was self employed in carpentry. Matthew was a jack of all trades; he especially enjoyed farming and his carpentry. Matthew was full of life, a free spirit; he loved the outdoors, and he enjoyed his horses and spending time with family and friends. His greatest joy in life was his children, Halle and Austin. Matthew treasured every moment with them, especially sharing his passion and love of horses. Another passion of Matthew's was attending sporting events and cheering for the Steeve boys. Left to cherish Matthew's memory are his children Halle and Austin Goudie and their mother, Cathy Cozad of Clarinda, IA; mother, Betsy Olenius and husband Greg of Clarinda, Iowa; father, Hal Dean Goudie and wife Joanna of Clarinda, Iowa; sister, Christy Rock and husband Kyle of Lincoln, NE; grandmothers, Marcelene Goudie and Barbara Olenius; stepbrother and step sisters, Danuel and Lauren Olenius, Molly, Kelly, Mallory Olenius; special friend, Joni Steeve and children, Shadoe and Tyler of Clarinda, Iowa and Kirstin of Omaha, Nebraska; favorite niece, Gianna Elizabeth Rock; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends Preceding Matthew in death were his grandfather, Melvin Goudie; grandparents, Harold and Dorothy Horel; great grandmother, Lilah Freemyer. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn his passing. Matthew will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The memories will remain in our hearts forever. .
