Not sure what to say?

Mathew Hopkins `88 was in guiding force behind college housing for nine of us male students here at Union. He was the one who knocked on doors to find the house that fit us the best. He supplied the house with laundry machines and helped choose furniture and appliances and truly was a founding father of very big things. As a.freshmen Matt explored all of the different hats that college offered. This included squash, crew, curling, radio and his first love: Physics which he went on to...

Matt Hopkins was a kind, compassionate man who loved rowing and opened the sport to " anyone who wanted to row" when the initial program was started at Niskayuna High School. My younger son decided to join and rowed at Niskayuna for four years developing a lifelong love of the sport. And now, having married and having a family of his own in Chicago, his older daughter is a member of the Chicago Rowing Club. Matt´s legacy lives on, not only in the rowers he coached but in the love of the...

Tamra and family - I can't tell you how sorry I am about Matt's passing and honestly can't get my head around what happened.

Just learned today about this sad loss at my sons Rowing practice in Philadelphia. Mr. Hopkins changed me and made me a better mom, friend and follower of Christ. My heart aches for everyone left behind.. he sure left a piece of his passion everywhere he went.

Just learning of this sad news. Sending my condolences to Tammy and their beautiful family.

Just heard of Mr. Hopkins passing away. I´m truly heartbroken by this news. He was a great teacher and was always happy to teach. He will be greatly missed by many. Praying for his family during this time of grief.

Sending you deepest and most sincere condolences Tammy and family. Matt was truly an extraordinary person and I know that you were the light of his life. Matt brought rowing to Niskayuna high school in 1987 when I was a senior there. We were all captivated and hypnotized by his incredible passion for rowing and generosity in sharing with us. Matt taught us everything, always with a smile. I continued to "cox" for three more years at Union College and truly admired and revered his spirit for...

Terribly sad to hear of Matt's passing. I'm an alum of Niskayuna Rowing, and Matt brought so much passion and kindness to the entire program. I have such fond memories of travelling down to Camp Bob Cooper in South Carolina, a trip helmed by Matt. A whole week of nothing but rowing, I know Matt loved it just as much as the students. RIP

Tamra, You and your family have my deepest condolences. LeAta U'88
