Matthew Wayne Isaacs Nisbett

We mourn the tragic loss of Matthew and hold Dick, Sue and Sarah close and dear in our thoughts and prayers for healing and peace. Love always, the JG Nisbetts: Tom, Rick, Shawn, Candace, Mallory, and Savanah.

I had the pleasure of meeting Matt through the Michigan Folk School, where he taught bushcraft and survival skills. I interviewed him and was fascinated by his philosophy. He clearly thought about his impact on the world.

Matt was the most genuine human being I ever had the privilege of knowing. Ann Arbor lost a wonderful man.

My son and I met Matt so many years ago when we frequented Jerusalem Garden, always sitting at front counter. Matt always paid special attention to my son, a few times making him falafel in shape of frog legs. His generosity in sharing his kind spirit then and in many path-crossings over last 15 or so years will not be forgotten. He is an Ann Arbor gem, and our city will be less brilliant without him. Matt was an instructor to my son in an outdoor nature program. We loved his enthusiasm, vitality and are honored that he shared his warm spirit and lifeskills with us.
