Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Matthew Evan Lewis passed away on December 25, 2023 in Deming, Washington. Matthew was born on June 30, 1975 in Sacramento, California and spent his early childhood in Fairfax, Virginia and later in Ballwin, Missouri.

He is survived by his children Violet Anne Lewis and Gibson Chase Lewis of Deming, Washington, his parents Anne Grace Lewis (Young) & Robert Charles Lewis of Saint Louis, Missouri, his sister Katherine Anne Jacobs (Lewis) of Chesterfield, Missouri, former spouse Rebecca Dinaburg Lewis of Ferndale, Washington, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family who loved him so much.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother Kevin Charles Lewis and grandparents U. S. Rep. Robert A. Young & Irene Young (Slawson) of Saint Louis, Missouri.

Matt was a gentle soul and nurturing father to Violet and Gibson. The greatest joy of his life was raising them with Rebecca on their scenic 24-acre property he developed for them.

Matt was recently employed by Whatcom County, Washington as a Civil Engineer Tech/Bridge Inspector. He enjoyed his work which combined his fondness for rugged outdoor adventures. An avid snowboarder, he worked at mountain resorts in Colorado and Oregon before settling near Mt. Baker, Washington. The beaches and waterfalls of Hawaii were also a favorite destination where many cherished family memories were made.

We will gather to honor his life on January 20, 2024, 1-4 pm in the Family Center at Schrader Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Rd. Ballwin, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Autism Speaks.

I wish I could attend to give my condolences, but will be there in spirit. I look back fondly at all those days skating with him, and will honor his life when I snowboard next.
