Matthew “Matt” Thomas McCraw, age 44, a resident of Williamston, NC known best from Washington, NC before illness, passed away Thursday July 4, 2024, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.


The family will receive friends Sunday July 14, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.


Mr. McCraw was born in Greenville County, SC on December 28, 1979, to Thomas Foster McCraw and Sherry Lynn Hogge. He was a construction worker, he had a passion for playing pool and loved sports, especially watching the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr. McCraw was a fun , caring, really big people person and was quick to tell you a good story.


Mr. McCraw will be leaving behind his 2 lovely daughters, Eylissa Ann McCraw of Vanceboro, Kaytlin Lee McCraw of Vanceboro, his incredibly strong mother, Sherry Stilley, a loving sister, Emily Tyre of Washington, a caring brother, Cary Lynn McCraw and wife Chirstina as well as her children , one grandchild, Dawson Hinnenkamp, two grandchildren on the way, and six nieces and nephews Mr. McCraw loved as much as his own, Miciyah Nicole Frazier, Daveion McCraw, Markel Tyre, Felicity McCraw, Jordan McCraw, and Victoria McCraw.


He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas F. McCraw and one nephew, Mitchell McCraw.

I remember Matt when he attended Chocowinity Primary School and went to school with my daughter. He was such a thoughtful and kind boy and so caring. So sorry to hear of his passing at such a young age!! Prayers for his family. Emily, I’m so sorry! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

MATT WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON NEW HIM WHILE HE WAS GOING TO SCHOLL WITH MY KIDS HE WOULD COME OVER AND SPEND TIME AT MY HOME AND WOULD CALL ME HIS MOM.
