ROCK HILL, S.C.--Matthew David Mellon, 45, of South Carolina and formerly of South Glens Falls, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 at Hospice & Community Care in Rock Hill, following a brief illness.
Born June 11, 1968 in Troy, N.Y., he was the son of Donna (Rabine) Swan and step-son of Michael R. Swan.
Matt graduated from South Glens Falls High School, class of 1986, Adirondack Community College, and Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff. He was a long time employee of Culinaire International, winning many awards and recognition as Food and Beverage Director at Omaha Steak House in Charlotte, N.C.
He married his forever sweetheart, Amy Shoup on April 26, 2003 in Deep Creek Lake, M.D.
There was no greater enjoyment for Matt than a game of golf with his buddies. He traveled all over the United States and Ireland to play the best golf courses. There is many a story about Matt and his golf adventures. He passed the golf fever on to his special nephew, Bret.
Matt LOVED the Oakland Raiders! He was their biggest fan, recruiting his 4 and 8 year old children to help cheer them on. Matt was a very special person with a huge personality. You always remembered him once you met him with his contagious smile, devilish chuckle, and sparkling blue eyes.
He was predeceased by his loving grandparents, Gertrude and Daniel Mellon, Ruth Fisher and Robert Swan; and his uncles, Matthew "Max", Ronald and Thomas Rabine, and Peter Poulos.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Amy (Shoup) Mellon; the lights of his life, his baby girls, daughters, Delanie Grace and Rylie Catherine Mellon; his parents, Donna and Michael Swan; his mother and father-in-law, Edward and Peggy Shoup; grandparents, Elizabeth Swan and Donald "Corney" Rabine; siblings, Daniel Mellon and girlfriend, Kim Mitchell, James Mellon and wife, Jean, Julia Scarincio and husband, Paul, Laura-Ann Martin and husband, Kevin, Kathleen Gillis and husband, Steve, Meghan Howard and husband, Brian; sisters-in-law Julie Shoup and boyfriend, Darren Cole, Jill Shoup and boyfriend, Seth Lasher; nieces, Brittany Scarincio and boyfriend, Brett LaFarr, Caitlyn Ricciardelli, Lauren Mellon, Rayne Twilley-Mellon, and Gracy Wilhelm; nephews, Bret Mellon and wife, Tamara, Brandon Scarincio, Christiano Ricciardelli, Kyle Gillis, Conner Whalen, Grayson Martin, and Bryan Wilhelm; a very special aunt, Roberta Poulos; as well as many other aunts, uncles and cousins who adored him.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street, Queensbury.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Patricia Girard of Hartford Yoked Parish, officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Rd., Queensbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the children's education fund can be made to Amy Mellon, For Matthew Mellon Memorial Fund, Founders Federal Credit Union, 1404 Ebenezer Rd., Rock Hill, S.C. 29732.
A memorial service will be held in Rock Hill, S.C. at a date to be announced.
