Reichel Funeral Home - Northampton Obituary

Matthew S. Race, 48, of N. Whitehall Township, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Michele (Hanzl) Race and together they celebrated 22 years of marriage on July 10, 2021. Born in Allentown, he was the son of Florence D. (Moffitt) Race and the late Paul E. Race. The world has lost an incredible man. Matthew loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was the rock of his family and would make them laugh even in the darkest of times. He loved his family and was so proud of his son, Ty, and daughter, Adrien. He owned and operated Lil' Angel's Childcare, Coplay, and loved being with the kids. Matthew loved being outside, especially when he was saltwater fishing. His favorite vacation spot was anywhere in the Florida Keys as long as he was boating on the water and with his family. He loved hanging out with friends and family around a big bonfire. Matthew was a kind and generous person and would do anything to help people or animals. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Whitehall.

In addition to his wife and mother, Matt is survived by son, Ty Race; daughter, Adrien R. Olsen; brothers, Paul Race (Joan) and Michael Race (Kimberly); sisters, Brenda Crist (Earl) and Mary Shaneberger (Charlie); brothers-in-law, Scott Hanzl (Cindy), Curt Hanzl (Robyn) and Barry Hanzl; and many nieces and nephews. Matt was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Ellen Race, and his in-laws, Frank and Rosemarie Hanzl.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 2nd from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Lappawinzo Fish and Game, 25 Lappawinzo Rd., Northampton. Arrangements are under the direction of Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton.

In lieu of donations and flowers, his family would love if you would help someone in need or pay it forward. That is the kind of man he was, and he brought an amazing energy to this world that will be missed. Online condolences may be offered below.
