SIMPSON, Matthew David - Of Davison, age 30, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Bruce Garner and Grandfather Norman Walworth officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Matthew's wife Diana and son Nicholas, age 1, through Swartz Funeral Home. Visitation 4-8PM Wednesday, 11AM-2PM and 4-8PM Thursday at the funeral home. Matthew was born in Flint, Michigan on April 16, 1978, the son of David and Cynthia (Walworth) Simpson and was a resident of the Flint area all his life. He married Diana Trevisi, the love of his life, on August 7, 2004. Matt was a 1996 graduate of Flint Central High School, where he played baseball. He attended Mott College and the University of Michigan. Matt enjoyed video games, was an avid collector and loved riding his four-wheeler, snowmobile and motorcycle. He was employed by GAB Telecom, where he had many friends, and attended Faith Tabernacle Church for many years. Matt placed his trust in Jesus Christ and was baptized in faith. Throughout his illness, his main concern was his testimony to his family and his love for his wife and son, taking comfort in knowing that God is a Father to the fatherless. He was also determined to leave for his friends and family a legacy of love for Jesus Christ. He prayed faithfully for his family and continued to trust God and give thanks, even in his final days. His family takes great comfort in the knowledge that while Matthew is absent in the body, he is present with the Lord. Surviving Matthew are wife, Diana; son, Nicholas Matthew; parents, Cynthia and husband Stacey Hedrick, David and wife Mary Simpson; mother and father-in-law, Aylen and Albert Michailian; brother, Morgan and wife Tabatha Simpson; sister and brother, Macie Hedrick, Matthew and wife Jessi Hedrick; grandparents, Robert and Sally Simpson, Brenda Morgan, Norman and Janet Walworth, Gary Morgan; great-grandparents, O.V.L. McCoy and Ilene Morgan; niece, McCoy Simpson; nephews, Caleb Hedrick and Tristan Simpson; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law and "little brother," Nicholas Michailian; grandmother, Nancy Simpson and several great-grandparents. I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their kind words, prayers and love for our family. I miss my biscuit more than words can express and my heart aches for Nicholas. But, through all of this, I know that God is holding us in the palm of his hands. Matt's main concern throughout his illness was knowing his friends and family will one day be in heaven with him. He told me that if Jesus could suffer and die on the cross for us then he can carry this burden for the ones he loved. ...

Diana, My heart goes out to you and baby Nicholas. I have many wonderful memories of Matthew: as a toddler walking around singing Abracadabra, a teenager playing Euchure, and a young adult meeting you and bringing you and your brother into our family. I am proud of the person Matthew grew up to be and so happy he had you in his life. We will miss him tremendously. You are a wonderful person. You and all of your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I love you. Your cousin, ...

Matt,
It was a pleasure having known you for the time that I did. Your faith and courage was uplifting to everyone you knew. I'm only sorry that I didn't get up there to see you in time. It has definitely a valuable lesson, time is of the essence and we must treasure those that are important to us in the small amount of time that we have here.
Diana, you are a remarkable woman, I can only pray to God that one day I can have half your strength and faith. You, Nicholas and your...

I didn't really know Matthew, but I was at his parent's wedding. I have known his mother, Cindy, for a long time. As a father, I know how difficult it must be for his parents. It sounds like he was loved by many, many people. That says a lot to me. He was a good boy who turned into a wonderful man. He was a good person which is what we all must strive for in life, to be remembered as someone who had positive influences on others. My heart goes out to Cindy and his family. Much love...
